Many people think Barton Springs is not only the best swimming spot in Austin, but also the best swimming spot on earth. The 1,100 ft. long, 3 acre, spring-fed pool is one of the largest non-chlorinated swimming pools in the country. It averages 68 degrees year round. You can find ducks, bass, crawfish, and double-crested cormorants splashing alongside the swimmers. There is a shallow end for children, a deep area for floating, a diving board, and room for lap swimmers. It is open year round and closed on Thursdays for cleaning. There is a small charge.
Colorado Bend State Park — This park offers primitive camping, hiking, fishing, swimming, mountain biking, birding, cave tours, and nature walks to the beautiful 60 ft hight Gorman Falls, particularly popular with bird watchers. Between Lampasas and San Saba. (325) 628-3240. Enchanted Rock State Natural Park- Climb beautifull Enchanted Rock for a stunning view of the Texas Hill Country. Lakeway City Park -- 64 acres of beautifully maintained parklands for the residents of Lakeway and their guests. Hamilton Greenbelts I & II -- Provides several miles of wonderful hiking trails along Hurst Creek and Yaupon Creek. Heritage Center Park -- Home to the Spirit of Freedom Memorial for Veterans and the Varner History Center. Smith Greenbelt -- A 4.5 acre greenbelt perfect for a hike along Hurst Creek, or mountain biking along the trails. Canyonlands -- This beautiful 20 acre tract is the City of Lakeway's newest park, and provides spectacular hiking and awesome views.
